We all have things we want for our business or want in our business or business life – a type or number of clients, a revenue goal, a profit goal, equipment, capable and accountable employees, smooth processes, or the ability to take time off. Anything you want has activities we need to do to gain these things. I would like to turn the thought of what you want on its head by asking, what do you HAVE in your business or business life that you DON’T want? Alternatively, what is it you shouldn’t be doing?

I encourage you to think about things, employees, clients, vendors, or activities in your business life that needlessly cost time and money. How about things in your business that reduce profits, cause stress and frustration, activities you really dislike, situations that make you feel trapped in your business, or anything else that causes dysfunction, lack of performance or damages performance or reduces your enjoyment of being in business for yourself? What are you tolerating that you shouldn’t be? We all have things we are tolerating in our life and businesses that aren’t positive and cost us time, energy, motivation, and money. Consider things you once did but no longer need to do, things that are comfortable but waste your time and should be delegated or eliminated, clients that are stressful or unprofitable, too many clients that have made your business too complex, unproductive employees or employees that are in the wrong job, suppliers and contractors that don’t perform, the list goes on.

Is your business getting these 8 essentials right?
